An Integrative Approach for a Unique Therapy Relationship

We provide Schema-Informed Music Therapy to those for whom it is suitable. SIMT makes for a powerful but intense intervention, and hinges on the principles of Schema Therapy within a Musical Framework.

Find out more:

  • SIMT takes the key principles of Schema Therapy - that your ‘Schemas’ (negative life beliefs about yourself) are now maladaptive and unhelpful - to new heights. Visualisation work is a major part of Schema Therapy, but not all people can access visualisations. SIMT elevates this to a musical experience shared between two people, seeking to evaluate your schemas and modes through a musical framework.

SIMT taps into your musical memory, muscle memory, and visual memory, to take you back to those challenging times within the safety of a musical, brave space. Use of a third-space, the musical space, provides a powerful safety net for when talking just seems too hard.

  • Clinicians using SIMT have been thoroughly trained to make sure that they can adapt the approach to work for you. They will be highly-skilled individuals in both verbal and musical interventions.

  • A collaborative approach: SIMT work is between both the client and the therapist. No more writing notes after the session; the work is done together, and the therapist holds you to account.

Sessions are an hour and a half to really make sure there is time for some deep-diving.

  • Schema Therapy was founded to support therapy-resistant populations. SIMT takes the spirit of this and goes further, aiming to make not just this therapy work, but restarting your faith and trust in therapy. SIMT aims to make the therapy-resistant, therapy-respondent.
